Jonathan provides outside general counsel services to companies in various industries including the entertainment, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing, professional service and energy industries. Jonathan has deep experience in handling complex transactions and matters in mergers and acquisitions, credit facilities, employment matters, national tours, catalogue sales and purchases, business immigration, licensing and sponsorships.  In addition to providing outside general counsel services to organizations, Jonathan represents executives and top recording artists, songwriters, managers, and agents in their individual legal needs including negotiating and handling employment, recording, publishing, management, and sponsorship agreements. 

 

Prior to co-founding Safford Motley PLC in 2009, Jonathan was a full partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings where he practiced for 11 years. Jonathan attended Indiana University-Maurer School of Law (Bloomington, Indiana) and graduated magna cum laude and was selected for membership in the Order of the Coif. During law school, Jonathan was the Notes Editor for the Indiana Law Journal and was a member of the National Moot Court team. Jonathan grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville, and has lived in the Nashville area for the last 20 plus years. In addition to his legal practice, Jonathan serves as an adjunct professor for the Nashville School of Law, has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee and the Brentwood Blaze Football Club.
